Sunday April 10th is Census Night, so our project this month relates to the Census National Archives.
The 1911 Census is available on-line and are very interesting to view. You will definitely need a parent and probably a grandparent to help you with this project.
For your project you need to:
- Get the surname, area and townland of a member of your family who was alive in 1911 (probably a great-grandparent, or great-great grandparent)
- Go to http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
- Click on SEARCH THE CENSUS RECORDS FOR IRELAND 1901 AND 1911
- Click on BROWSE BY PLACE (do not use the form for searching by name etc- it is not very useful)
- Choose 1911
- Select county
- Select DED (general area)
- Select townland
- Select family name
Record your findings on the record sheet I have provided.
You have 8 great-grandparents, so you might want to look up more than one.
If you are interested in your family history, and have someone to help you, you could do the exact same for the 1901 census.
Good luck!
